Ranked top amongst Indian distance learning institutes, the Indira Gandhi Open University was started in 1984, with a mission to provide "inclusive education" for building a "knowledge society". At present, the university serves about 4 million students, with 67 regional centres, 67 overseas centres and 3000 authorised centres.
IGNOU is responsible for the establishment of the Distance Education Council (DEC) and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
The university has deployed digital, interactive content through the education-dedicated satellite, EduSat, which facilitates two-way video-conferencing in 134 centres.
IGNOU's distance MBA programmes are AICTE-recognized and are available in different specializations. The minimum duration for a distance MBA program from IGNOU is 2. 6 years and, the maximum duration for completion is 8 years.
The eligibility for the IGNOU distance MBA program is as follows:
- Any graduate with 50% marks or Bachelor's degree with three years of supervisory/ managerial/professional experience, or Professional Degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Medicine/ Architecture/ Law/ Pharmacy or Professional Qualifications in Accountancy/ Cost and Works Accountancy/ Company Secretary ship etc. or Masters Degree in any subject.
- Clearance of the OPENMAT entrance exam. Candidates who have already appeared and successfully cleared CAT, MAT, XAT and other such exams need not appear for OPENMAT.
- Non-graduates (10 +2 equivalent) with six years of managerial/ supervisory/ professional experience are eligible for diploma in management programs.
